My late father suffered from this some time ago (40 yrs I think) - he only found out when he started haemorrhaging
He was told he needed an operation that would require something like a month's recuperation - he was self-employed so asked for an alternative... he had to go on a
low fibre diet, ISTR, or foods that contained easily soluble fibre, for a while, and then increased his fibre intake as things settled down. Stuff like nuts, seeds and fruit skin were out to start with. I don't recall any further problems, but finding out about it caused a scare.... he never had the operation
