Solo experience is not only permitted, it is required.
Chuck is quite correct (see
CARs 421.38(1)(a)(i)(B)), but I believe that most reputable training facilities are interpreting the requirement for 5 takeoffs and landings a bit more practically. Certainly I would not sign up for training with anyone who didn't allow at least an hour's solo.
