I had a bit of a talk with the recruitment people at BA about commuting - me from Aberdeen.
They suggested that on Short-haul, commuting isn't really a good option. This being because the number of long trips is quite limited and that a lot of the Euro flights leave early on in the morning.
Do you have somewhere to stay during training? If not, I could suggest
www.mminn.net. They have given me a great long-stay rate for a 6 week stay. It's about a 20 minute walk to Hatton Cross where the bus to the training office leaves from.
