I know some "piston twin" (not turbine) charter operators who avoided employing flying instructors and also did NOT count any instructing time, for the reasons you said.

In regards to finding a twin turbine job in Melbourne, also ask for :
- no early morning starts
- no late finishes
- no weekend work/public holiday work
just to keep your girlfriend happy and because she is threatening to leave you.

And also tell Qantas you are quite happy to start on a light twin (737) to start with but you would like the A330 in 6 months time, because you are so experienced.

I think you are right, we've all been had. But a good laugh anyway.

Though I think some people do think it is so easy (like many of us when we first started).
