I am getting a bit fed up with attacks on BALPA which suggest that somehow they are supposed to provide a backbone for pilots who are unwilling to stand up for themselves.
As has been repeated stated on several threads, BALPA does not arrive like batman, on a white horse, with the 7th Cavalry in tow, to solve your problems. They bring expertise, but need YOU to make things happen.
If you are not willing to defend your corner you simply cannot turn around afterwards and announce that somebody else let you down.
If BALPA is to be criticised, it is for allowing the notion that they do "magic" to become established in the minds of some pilots. Just as you get the politicians you deserve, so too do you get the pilots association you deserve. It was always thus. It will always be thus.
