I have in the past managed to connect my Garmin Pilot III to FS2004 so it is possible, but I cannot remember how I did it. I know that somewhere on the internet there are some very useful instructions that give you a step by step guide, but I can't find them again.

I would imagine, if you have selected the correct conection type, then the gps would "autolocate".
