If only!!

why is there a \'No substance dependance/addiction" requirement in a class 1 medical certificate? How do they check if you\'re dependant on illegal substances?
Allwerp,

I think you\'ll find that this exists at all Medical Class levels, not just Class 1.

Dependency / addiction would probably only be discovered if a person had received (documented) treatment at some stage, however, proper screening of blood / urine samples would reveal any usage so that would start the investigative ball rolling. There is also a difference between dependency and addiction, neither of which would be a desired quality in a professional pilot so I would imagine the investigations would be quite thorough.

HTH
