Thanks for the replies and the info, it's greatly appreciated. I did consider getting another internal hard drive for my desktop (which is running out of space), but as I've also got a laptop, I think a USB external drive will be more useful as it will also allow for large transfers of data between the two computers.
The hard drive in question is 18Gb (yep, the computer is old!) and I would like to shift a lot of accumulated files off it (yet still be able to acccess them occasionally).
