Maybe not quite as specific as Genghis would have liked but I can tell you that there will be an intake of graduate level engineers at Boscombe Down [QinetiQ] in January. The ‘grad’ scheme at Boscombe is one of the finest around, offering participants an opportunity to train as aircraft and aero systems trails officers. The work centres around the test and evaluation of current and future military aircraft and their associated systems etc. The grad scheme’s duration is two years, during which you will visit several departments on placement. It’s typical to do 4 – 8 placements whilst on the scheme. Placements could be in aircraft dynamics, air vehicle systems, project management or anywhere else that interests you (providing you can find someone to mentor you). There is also a fair chance of taking part in Empire Test Pilot School (ETPS) courses too.
Professional development with the various academic bodies is encouraged and fee’s are usually paid. In addition to this there is a set of management modules being offered by Bath Uni for QinetiQ grads – again this is paid and offers the grads a chance to broaden their ability and function in other parts of the organisation if interested.
