Having intimate knowledge of the way the designated CASA rep behaved on the A330 proving flights, I'm not surprised that, for 'public' consumption, the "crew" failed.
Firstly, you'll note that the crew flew the a/c on the delivery over a number of sectors with the CASA rep/s on board. If the crew were so inept as to cause a serious worry, you'd have thought the CASA reps would have called the show off at the first port. However, in 'route checking', things can happen on the last sector which give rise for concern; maybe it was that??
Secondly, are we ABSOLUTELY sure it WAS the crew??
With the knowledge of the A330 fiasco [on CASA's part, I stress
], there could have been 'proving' requirements which were a systemic problem and the easy press solution [and don't we all know it here!!
] is to say "the crew" failed.
Suffice to say that if CASA sign off on the deal, it's probably right and the delivery hassle was a hiccup. Give them a go!
