What most of the youngsters here don't realise is that once you have got over the "wow" of flying a nice shiny airliner, and maybe got your command, it really does become a matter of time off and salary.
Been there, done that, got the T-shirt. These days, I would much rather be home with the kids than two hours into a long trip, bored out of my tree, trying to convince the F/O that I really am paying attention.
Because that is the reality of airline flying - mostly boring cruise, crap hotels, endless positioning and getting hauled out of your bed at 5am because somebody has gone sick.
Think about it as you make you plans to buy a type rating...
