I have just dug out my original (and empty), 'Piloting Transport Aircraft' candidate’s logbook for the old NVQ.

It can best be described as over-complicated, cumbersome duplication, resulting in a worthless endorsement of your ATPL.

Allegedly only one candidate completed the qualification and I think it is fair to say that almost everyone who registered did so to take advantage of the tax relief...and rightly so!

The same level of tax relief and qualification was, and still is available to trainee lorry drivers etc. However, aviation no longer qualifies. Too many PPL's registering with no intention of completing the course, was one of the reasons given at the time.

The NVQ as it stood, would have done nothing to raise the status of commercial pilots above that of hairdressers in the eyes of the outside World. As a result very few of us got past the stage of filling in our names on the manual.

If it has been resurrected, I wouldn't bother if I were you (unless you can gain tax savings. Your ATPL says more than enough.
