OTOH, I have it on very good authority that Yeager the supersonic pilot and Yeager the
General, are, shall we say, rather 'different'.
For example, a USAF bird Colonel friend of mine tells the tale of
General Yeager charging rather a large number of drinks at the Edwards officers club to the Colonel's account, and when confronted about this, became rather abusive and mentioned that one should not complain...after all, how often do you get to buy a drink for the first guy thru the sound barrier.
Hardly in keeping with ones 'exhaulted' position.
