The situation in EHAM is similar to EDDF. Due to its being surrounded by houses, most of them built after the airport was developed, inhabited by a vociferous population seemingly 100% against aviation it is neccessary to balance out runway use and sometimes use odd combinations; additionaly, as much as possible, built up areas are avoided, leading to some rather complicated SIDs/SARs.
