I assume that public schools teach that Mr A's education may have been something of a waste, not "somewhat," which is an adverb.
I know, I know, one could argue that it doesn't matter if there's something else going on at the same time that's important. But I must be true to my nature and point out this sort of thing whenever the opportunity arises.
