MMMF - "Flight" editorial

Flight's editorial was particularly interesting this week along with the article inside covering the composite materials that have become generically known as MMMF ( Man Made Mineral Fibres)

The age of the A.380 and 7E7 certainly brings a whole new dimension to the perils likely to be faced should one come down in a populated area.

I was surprised that Flight's comments seemed to suggest that further investigation is required into the effects of MMMF following a high impact accident / high temp fire.

I always considered that the RAF had learned about this following early Harrier GR5 accidents and I have read articles written by the UK AAIB that leave little doubt ref: the potential hazards, subject to varying conditions.

Will the 380 and 7E7 introduce yet knew materials that we do not yet understand or is the sheer volume of MMMF being used in the design the unknown?
