Tekel,
I am not trying to put you down, just trying to give you a reality check, so you won't be disappointed.
By "hundreds of furloughed pilots" I mean that the airlines are contractually obliged to rehire these individuals as per their seniority. First then will they hire outsiders. Loads of them are waiting in line. You will NOT be able to skip in front of others if you, as you state; "are willing to work for less". This is not how things work up here.
Again, your FAA license isn't worth anything at the moment. You will be able to get a validation for a shorter period, but thats it. You need a JAA license (look into it!) Why would the airlines hire somebody, train them at great cost, just to see them standing with an expired license after a year?? Loads of JAA licensed guys and gals are waiting out there.
It is a pretty tedious and expensive exam, but I wish you the best of luck.
All I can say is please dont be naive about the worksituation up here. Unfortunately it aint that easy at the moment.

I wish you the best of luck
