As a rough rule of thumb, the system should allow 1½ times the RAM for total Pagefile(s). Whether you let Windows look after this or specify the Max and Min yourself is a question of choice.
I might choose to specify the size and location of the Pagefile.sys if I had more than one HDD and wanted to ensure that the paging was restricted to the fastest non-system HDD.
But, with a simple machine, I tend to leave it to Windows so that the Pagefile.sys is a variable entity.
