Volunteer pilots required for mercy missions

Have you ever thought about how you can use your pilot skills to help someone less fortunate? If so, here’s your chance.

A new charity called Angel Flight Europe is offering free flights to patients who need non-urgent medical care. It’s based on a similar organisation in the United States called Angel Flight, which last year carried around 32,000 patients and carers. You can find out more at www.angelflight-europe.org, which also has a link to a summary in French

Our first mission took place in February, when two private pilots transported a premature baby and his parents back from Italy, where they had been on holiday, to England. Our second mission was completed last week: we paid for scheduled airline tickets for the family of a little girl who has Noonan Syndrome (a congenital heart condition) to fly from Helsinki to London, from where they flew on to Boston to see a specialist consultant.

In the UK we have 11 private pilots who have volunteered to donate their time and use of their aircraft for these types of "mercy missions", and who have been briefed in procedures and operations that they must follow on such missions. We are now looking for more pilots in Europe, particularly in France, as we have patients there who are already eager to use our services.

If you would be interested in volunteering your services or your aircraft, becoming a member, or making a donation, please visit the website now, and get in touch.

Merci pour votre attention.
