I recall that the takeoff distance an A380 needs is actually less than that of a fully loaded 744, and the same goes for the landing distance at MLW.
I'll have to look up some numbers to see if I'm right, but as far as I know it was like this.
The problems with the A380 when considering airport handling are not the takeoff- and landing run, but the pavement loading through her 22 wheels, her huge wingspan of almost 80 meters and the fact that the the gate will have to handle upto 800 peeps coming off or going on at a time.
