As far as I know the origins of the Q codes were from when morse was the method of communication (far quicker to spell Q** than "request weather at destination"
- in fact still far quicker to say QFE then " pressure setting at airfield level"
As for the choice of letters - Some connection between the meaning and chioce of letters would be nice, but if there are several thousand I think that would be asking a bit much!
