Interestingly enough I was talking to a friend yesterday evening about it, and he suggested going down Epson route, as he has, rather than laserjet, and with the cheaper refills of about £5 or £6, compared with my normal almost £50 a time for black and colour. I was looking at the R200, 300 and 500? lastnight from them, that print onto CD/DVD, the 300 having a card reader so no PC needed for printing digital photos, and 500 having a small preview screen.

He also mentioned the drum but I didn't think of it as another consumable catridge.
Hmmm now from a decision to buy a laserjet I'm swinging towards a cheaper cartridge option in the R300/200 mentioned above.
