If in doubt, ask your GP to check your ears. Explain that you think your hearing isn't quite as it should be and ask for an audiogram - it's free! The audiogram is conducted in a similar way to the Class 1 and you should get results showing attenuation (hearing loss) at certain frequencies - 500, 1000, 2000, 5000Hz I think. You can then compare your results with the values quoted on the CAA website and decide whether or not you stand a good chance of passing.
Your ears may be blocked with ear wax, which can impair hearing, so your GP may suggest warm olive oil drops at night and a possible ear syringe session (although this is becoming rare). The olive oil helps to soften the ear wax and eventually removes it.
