If you do the CPL exams now, you will then need to do the IR exams before you can do your IR. Some of these exams are the same as the CPL ones, so you will have to do them twice.

What's more, once you've got 1500 hours, 500 of which are on a multi-crew aircraft (and there are a few other requirements thrown in too), you will then be ready to upgrade your CPL to an ATPL. But you can not do this unless you've done the ATPL exams. So you will then have to do all 14 exams - all of which you'll have done once already, and some of which you'll have done twice.

No doubt at all - do the ATPL exams to start with.
