OK well my attempt to try & purchase the F4 from Fairford has failed unfortunetly - had a letter back from DLO (Aircraft Disposals) at Wyton today , basically saying they were "sympathetic towards my desire to relocate this aircraft to Abingdon Airfield" for the reasons i have stated earlier in this forum but "the disposal of the Phantom is strictly governed by the conditions imposed by the US at the time of their purchase. These prevent the transfer of ownership to a non-public body unless the MOD is prepared to accept continuing responsibility of the aircraft"....... & later in the leter states "Over the recent years, as a result of similar requests for Phantom aircraft, approaches have been made to the US authorities to relax these conditions, thus allowing the transfer to private aircraft collections.To date these efforts have proved unsuccessful".......,its a shame as there aint no use for it to fly again so cannot see the US stance on it, still at least i tried!:
