Maybe it is more to do with attitude/expectations than exam content...
e.g. If you go to the exam
expecting to be asked anything from the entire syllabus then presumably one would study everything relevant to that - and would breeze through the exam but also be able to do the other, real-flying-relevant things, as well: Like flight plan completion...
