If you want to learn to fly WELL and enjoy the friendly environment of a proper members' club, avoid Glasgow Flying Club, Prestwick Flight Centre and Cumbernauld.
I suggest you contact Prestwick Flying Club (
www.prestwickflyingclub.co.uk). They are a not-for-profit club and offer some of the lowest flying rates in the UK. They have interesting aircraft and perhaps the most experienced instructors in Scotland. I know it's quite a drive from where you stay, but the benefits will far outweigh the distance (some of the members come from much further afield).
