ATC doesn't need the type of 737 just a confirmation that it is a 737.
Maybe not for approach, but in the tower it can have quite significant effects. Such things as restrictions on the ground as to what size aircraft can go where and park where. Therefore, when you get your type check from the inbounds on their first contact, it's not just for
your benefit - it has knock ons all the way until it parks on a stand. So if it the declared type doesn't match what's on the strips - please make sure you're passing that info on the us in the tower.
