Elvis and Emirates Bad Press
Those of you agog at the drubbing Emirates is receiving in the "pilot meeting" thread should note that of the 1007 pilots at Emirates precisely 4 are doing their vitriolic best to keep that post dynamized. At 0.3% of the workforce this is roughly the same percentage of the population that believes that Elvis is still alive.
I have been with this company for more than ten years and they have never failed to deliver precisely what they promised on time and without a quibble. We have had pilots contract cancer, pilots experience emotional difficulties, pilots experience traumatic and embarassing personal problems, even pilots crashing into palm trees at 100 miles per hour and the company quietly carried them ALL on the books for literally years and financed every effort required until they were back on line. That is a fine, fine thing and stands head and shoulders above many employers in the soi-disant enlightened "West".
The peeing and moaning going on is doubtless the work of our endlessly self-pitying Antipodean colleagues. In their defense, they can't seem to help it, so spare a thought for their poor wives and try to ignore them. That's what we do on the flight deck at Emirates, one of the best places in the world for a pilot to work.
