Before spending your money (You will need a loan in any case because in the best of the case you are at around 50% of what is needed for a whole training), you have to be aware it is not an easy way and that at the end ,in the current situation, you will wait for some time before your first employment.
If you are passionated by aviation, in such a case yes at the end the job is interesting but the way is not easy...
First check if you are medically fit for the job, then before spending your money, try a cadet scheme: at least the selection process will give you some information about your personal abilities and what is required for doing the job: take the first application to a cadet scheme as a learning process.
Secondly, a pilot licence obtained in a specific country gives you access to a specific job market: with a FAA licence your market is restricted to some part of the world, with a JAR one the situation seems to be a little more open. But in any case, without a turboprop or a Jet rating and 500h of flight on such an aircraft, it is difficult to get a job on its own. A school is preparing to a specific licensing scheme: a FAA or a JAR school are not providing the same training. Be aware of the consequences at the end. Saving pounds, but being in a deadlock track at the end....?
My best advice is to try to be sponsored by an airline, they will help you to get the loan you need and guide you toward the school and the licence they want. If you spend your money at the end, your job is nearly secured.
As an example, in the area I work, there are some opportunities of pilot jobs but you must convert your licence in a local one and in any case FAA licences are not recognised by Malaysia (Standard considered too low)
