126.9 is the Inflight Broadcast Frequency used for air-to-air communications over more than 90% of the African continent. It's probably the bussiest VHF frequency in use anywhere. It's use has minmised and prevented many incidents and accidents.
It's use I believe is imperative to aviation safety over Africa and it keeps all of international traffic flowing as smoothly as possible all through the continent.
126.9 is not used in the same manner as 123.45 since it's intention is to maintain own seperation in poorly or un-controlled areas.
