Sadly, even some ex-Services bods can overinflate their Mil background - a sort of "Truth++".
A person I know left quite early and has done very well for himself I might add! But, on his various personal bios, what he did and what he claims he did just doesn't add up if, as more than likely, he followed a std career path until he left, a path much of which I did myself. It would be 1000000:1 if he'd done what he claims he did.
Me? My impact was summed up to me very nicely. I'd been given a task for me + 3 of my staff do in the 1990's as a priority over some 2 years. Some 5+ years after I'd been posted I popped back to meet the person (+ 1) now I/C.
In chatting I mentioned the important work that had been untrusted to me and my Team. "Ah!" he said "I've seen some old folders to do with that in the filing cupboard." so he heads over and drags them out for me.
The last thing filed was my "Project Handover brief" that I'd written when I left the Post to the previous guy to the one now in the job. After that ziltch, nowt, nada, SFA!!!!!!! It's then that I realised the true extent of my contribution to the "Defence of if the Realm" over almost 3 decades.........
Still, the pension is OK! 👍
