The mouth of the Strait is an international waterway overseen 50/50 between Iran and Oman, surely, or 50% by Iran to the east and 50% split between seven Arab countries to the west.
In 1991 I shared a student house and first year Engineering classes with an Iranian about my own age (late 20s) not long out of the Iran-Iraq war. One of the Applied Science students we shared maths classes with was an 18yo Iraqi-Australian lad. Far from hostility, they just seemed curious about each other and got along cordially.
