So keep your scan (including VS) going for as long as possible to help you in the process.
I agree but would add that when giving advice like the sentence above you have to be careful how it is interpreted. For example, some new pilots who have a very literal way of thinking ( let’s face it, the best of us are not smack-bang in the middle of the spectrum) will take that to mean they should glance inside at their v/s indicator at 31ft. You can avoid that misunderstanding by reiterating that below 50’ you’re conducting a visual manoeuvre using outside references.
