I accept the Mods CAN give time out without warning. There will be instances analogous to Gross Misconduct at work where being drop kicked out of the forum for good is exactly what is needed.
If I'd sailed too near the wind too often the equivalent of a yellow card would be good practice. Even if it's a red then provided email addys are up to date then a system generated 'goodbye' would mean people knew where they stood.
I think the issue here is that spats on the Bondi thread were seen as disrespectful to the dead and I accept it would have been better to refrain from comment than respond to inflammatory posts from others.
I spent some time moderating a cycling forum where posters who were repeatedly pushing the envelope with language etc got a warning and then a short thread ban. Too many of those and the account was closed. Three strikes and you are out sort of thing
