Jhieminga, I'd done the control D thing half-heartedly. It does work, and I tried it again just now. It gives the menu (I think) or much the same. Indeed, they appear in the toolbar overflow pop-down right at the bottom. I put it in an existing tab, 'Genealogy' as it happens, and then did a Ctrl D while on the same screen. Indeed, the little box that appears now has Edit Bookmark at the top. So I've got the functions I want, but not my old computer back. Fussy? Well, filling in forms and secret key functions are a problem. I don't know where a lot of the letters are.
Yes, when I say this, I'm not kidding.
About half the letters on my keyboard are worn off. I wrote my novel on this Logitech nice flat Ps2 plugged item. Millions of keystrokes. I touch-type and find that my muscle memory is a better speller than the plodding old me. This skill leads me astray. I gave a 1790 word answer to Worst Car thread t'other day. Sad.
Even more bizarre, I have an exact duplicate replacement keyboard I bought at the same time. It's in the cupboard awaiting the need to replace this one. Being nearly 86 makes this saving for the future kind of daft, but hey . . . I was born in the war and we saved things. Make do and mend. I didn't actually mend this keyboard but eating Nature Valley biscuits did slow it down a bit, and when I cleaned it, picking out all those bits was more satisfying than sex, and know what? I got enough bits to make a whole biscuit.
Where was I? I need to make Ctrl D function as a bookmark on the Bookmark Toolbar. Only then will I be slightly happy. True happiness will come when I teach Ccleaner to behave in a decent manner. They've stiffed me for nearly 40 quid, and I'll open a new thread about the insane lengths they go to to stop one cancelling the trial. I've promoted their company since they started so I'm rather hurt.
I used to back up Bookmarks and KeePass. Vital, that. Then I forgot one could do that and only noticed the files when I was staring at my four drives and wondering just who will venture into the files when I'm gone. I once forgot the password to my KeyPass. I knew if I remained calm, it would come back to me. It's hard to remain calm when you've lost the key to hundreds of passwords.
Prop Swinger. One does not yet have a tab at that stage. Well, Google perhaps since I'm searching with it. Let's see. It lets one Bookmark, but then it does it again creating infinite quantities. No Edit the second time. BUT WAIT. If I right click on my new creations, be they in the overflow pop-down or a new place under an existing tab, it lets me select Edit Bookmark. Ooooh. A bit of self discipline and I could live with that.
Bookmark tab erased.
Linux doesn't require Ccleaner or anti-virus. It's free. It's faster than Windows (r) (tm) I'm running Ubuntu 22.04 LTS on this desktop, It's too old and doesn't have enough memory for later versions, and Ubuntu 24.04 LTS on the laptop. Neither have delivered me a Blue Screen of Death in years, It will install itself comfortably alongside your Windows (r) (tm) installation, but backup first to be on the safe side. It's just much more stable than Windows. The only downside is that there aren't as many games available on Ubuntu as Windows.
