It's not that hard. One of the Cessna 172 aircraft I fly is G1000.
How about finding a mate who has a few hours on it then sit on the ramp together, power it up and work through the POH and do all the stuff for a normal flight? I mean load a route in the GPS, set QNH, that sort of stuff. It really is simple and almost intuitive.
