Not sure about the Robinson, but we practice TR failures all the time, one is not doomed, and we do not do an autorotation.
During my Robby training we barely did any TR failure practice. However, an auto is in the flight manual for Loss of Tailrotor Thrust.
There was a guy in a 44 once (in the Robby newsletter) who had his TR ripped off and managed to fly for about 45 minutes (he was over dense forest) before doing a 40kts running landing. Still had the vertical stabalizer though.
