Pre-Briefing
- Instructor gave a short pre-brief based on the PDF we received via email.
- He checked if we had any questions or doubts.
- Candidates were split into two groups of two.
Simulator Setup
- Aircraft fully set up by the instructor: FMC, minima, V1/VR/V2/VRF, all speeds provided.
- Your task:
- Request clearance.
- Conduct normal and emergency takeoff briefings.
- Discuss any threats (e.g., crosswind ~10 kt).
- Go through checklists – even if you don’t know all flows, call your PM to read it out; just show awareness and CRM.
- Standard callouts are very important; always verbalize intentions.
Takeoff & Initial Climb
- Takeoff followed the PDF profile.
- Focus on energy management: anticipate the level-off at 3000 ft and reduce thrust gradually.
- Track 084 to MURMA, then intercept 070° radial outbound from Muscat VOR (small intercept angle works best).
- Climb to 5000 ft at 250 kt, 1000 fpm.
Steep Turns
- At 5000 ft, instructed to do steep turns.
- Keep them smooth and controlled; anticipate and stay ahead of the airplane.
Descent
- Descend to 3400 ft, maintain 250 kt, 1000 fpm.
ILS Approach
- Autopilot initially engaged for briefing and setup.
- Once ready, instructor unfreezes sim and disconnects autopilot; vectors given for ~14 NM final.
- Configuration sequence: reduce to “up” speed → Flaps 1 → Flaps 5.
- Intercept localizer at Flaps 5, configure according to the profile they gave you in the email.
- Follow FDs, correct for 10 kt crosswind.
- Runway visible ~100 ft above minima; perform callouts and continue stable.
- Landing: firm and stable (not floaty, not hard), then stop on the centerline.
Visual Circuit
- Choose circuit direction, altitude, and speed (right-hand recommended for runway visibility).
- Maintain Flaps 5 throughout; anticipate turns and descend ~800 fpm.
- Land normally with PAPI's
Don’t worry about making mistakes – the instructor knows it’s your first time in a full-flight simulator. What matters is how you recover: if you lose altitude or speed, show that you can identify the situation, correct it, and regain control. Demonstrate that you are capable, calm, and trainable, and that’s what they are really looking for. CAE B737 Sim Assessment Insights for FlyDubai SO Program
All the best!
Hey these are great insights! Thank you! Just wondering what material did you use to review for the assessment particularly the advanced compass test and psychometric. All the best!
