I remember my father complaining about a similar thing in the 1980’s. ‘No one has large multi engine taildragger experience anymore.

I think you are correct. It's an incredible coincidence that all pilots that are even just slightly junior to oneself are inferior. Yet those more senior are either past it, or of similar experience.
Perhaps somehow tied up with how Coriolis works?
