Obviously ATC reported the case and we got an email from our chief pilot to remind us to comply with ATC speed restrictions. It always amazed me when pilots fly so slow, fully configured by 2000 feet and blatantly disregard the speed imposed by ATC and vacate at 15kt or less on on a high speed taxiway.. Not professional at all and that guy learnt it the hard way.
Out of idle curiosity, if you have to be stable by 1000 feet (just over three miles out?) how much speed can you lose from the five mile point? Might that necessitate using less flap than you otherwise would have used? Is there a rock bottom minimum landing speed at large busy airports? I seem to recall 120 knots being mentioned. Finally, if you can't comply for some good reason, is the etiquette to declare "unable" as soon as requested?
