Actually, my late father (who's wisdom and counsel I miss every day) came to mind as soon as I saw this report. This is exactly what my Dad would have done, just like he did when he was 15 or 16 and saw a couple of drunks attacking his father, a Police Officer. He ran in, belted one of them on the nose knocking him over then pushed the other one out of the way and stood between the two and his Dad ready to finish them off. Another officer arrived on the scene, slightly overweight, truncheon in hand and let's just say "discouraged the two drunks from any further activity via judicious application of said baton" but that's a story for another day.

I'm glad there are still people around like my Dad who, as Bazza said "just do".

That sort of person is rare these days, a rare breed indeed.
