Compare the noise footprint of modern airliners to those designed in the 50's and 60's. i.e. compare the noise generated with types such as the VC10, BAC 1-11 etc with types such as the B.777 and A319/320.

A lot has been achieved by both the airframe designers and engine designers in terms of reducing noise.

The frequency of departure/arrivals has I agree increased enormously, but that is in response to public requirements. Campaigns to reduce movements at individual airfields will just shift those movements, and the noise, elsewhere. (Possibly to other countries)

<when their kids cant sleep at night, who can blame them for fighting>> If I were in a simiar position to those residents then perhaps I would also campaign in the same way. It is their right to fight I agree, but if I was desperate then I would move. (I did years ago)
