Free cabin bags?
This is slightly ridiculous. You can't fit that many carry-on sized cases into the bins.
Generally speaking I travel Ryanair with my two offspring and I pay for the "family plus" deal which gets us suitcases in the hold and - at a reasonable price - reserved seats, together, towards the front where it's quieter. Having all the cases in the hold means we simply wait at the gate until the queue is down to five people or whatever. Then board and kick people out of our seats, if I have to. And no trying to find space in the bins.
On the other hand I had to travel a couple of times last year at short notice for very short trips. So it was under-seat bag only - perfectly adequate for one or two nights away. Second time was with offspring - managed to swap seats with someone so I could at least sit with one of them. Before you ask - I'll only ask if I am offering a better seat, e.g. they get to move from a middle seat to an aisle set. OTOH I will *offer* a middle seat to a couple travelling together if I get an aisle out of it - and people quite like it.
Point being that suitcases are optional, for sure. Allocated seating is arguable - seems reasonable to me that the front should command a premium: it's quieter and you get off sooner.
