The 777 might have been designed by "you do the right thing and you'll be OK" aces-of-the-base, but to, in any way, justify or try to explain away a state where a perfectly serviceable system stays dormant while the aeroplane crashes due to low speed in this day and age is just complete and utter nonsense.
