I was pretty nervous but as soon as I got there I was made to feel relaxed and calm. The order of the medical may be different depending on where you go but mine was as follows:
1) Arrived and within 15 mins I provided a Urine sample. This test is done to test proteins and sugars, nothing to worry about!
2) Eye sight tests. This is done by an optician - think of it as a regular eye appointment with a few more tests in there such as an Ishihara colour blindness test which is just literally reading coloured numbers out a book! You are told straight away if your eyes meet the min requirements. I was worried about this as I wear glasses but I had no issues and was signed off.
3) Bloods, Alcohol test and ECG - finger prick blood tests to check Haemoglobin and Cholesterol, blowing into a tube like a breathalyser to test your alcohol levels and then an ECG to check heart function.
4) Hearing and lung function test - Headphones on and sat in a soundproof box, press button every time you hear noise, pretty easy. Lung test is just a deep breath in a 6 second exhale into a tube to measure lung function.
5) Finally once all that is done you go and see a Doctor who puts all the info in, asks you a few more questions about medical history, does a few more of their own checks and then you're done!

I was there for a few hours - All in all it was a good experience and a lot less nerve-wracking compared to what I had in my head! I hope yours goes well and I hope this helps some SPA candidates who will have their medicals soon!
Did they not perform a drug test? On my email, i have been informed that a drug and alcohol screening will be carried out. So would have thought its the same standard throughout all AME centres
