Sad to see that the days of the W Mids unit being given an increase from 1200 to 1400 hours/year - to allow proactive patrolling in addition to other tasking (with any bobby authorised to call for heli support) are long gone. It was invaluable "keeping an eye out for you", as well as support for neighbouring forces (as far away as Devon/Cornwall) who didn't have 24-hour cover.
