I do respect the right to strike, don't get me wrong. But there are other ways to make your point across to the management (and financially hurt the company along the way if you really want to) without affecting your most important stakeholders, being your passengers. You seem like an intelligent person, so you probably know what I'm talking about.
The roster 'issues' you are referring to are indeed a fact, but are aswell a reality within airlines all across Europe. On top of that, when you're new to the company - perhaps a direct entry captain may be the only exception - you should not be expecting a fixed roster let alone to have your specific requested days off. Not even foreign contractors are getting these to spend some valuable time with their family at home.
On the other hand, the additional benefits are quite extensive. You take some, you lose some.
