So a lack of tradesmen leads to them being in high demand and able to attract high wages. NN solution is to import qualified people.
A lack of pilots, on the other hand, does not lead to them getting reasonable pay and pretty much everyone on this forum would be up in alms if the floodgates opened to pilot imports.

There is a lack of tradesmen because there is a lack of apprenticeships on offer. There is a lack of apprenticeships available because Australia's manufacturing industry is all but gone and other industries do not invest in training for the future. From another thread, Qantas currently has only fifteen engineering apprentices currently on the books.
