Just logic. The US always acts in its own interests - that is not a criticism, all countries do it. It is palpably losing interest in Europe, American members of this forum are saying it repeatedly. Why would a 21st century US Administration help a small European country when there would be much more to gain from demonstrating solidarity with the Central & South American countries on their doorstep and attracting the support of millions of Hispanic US voters?
Interesting theory. Wouldn’t bet on it. Evidence is much stronger for the special relationship between the UK and USA than any such relationship with volatile Central and South American states. I don’t believe the growing numbers of Hispanic voters will change that any time soon. Sadly the greatest threat is dysfunctional bloc of Trump syncophants in Congress.
